Guardian’s Top 5 Funds of the Decade
Last weekend the Guardian (UK) newspaper listed the Top 5 performing unit trusts of the decade, of the 'noughties'.
With this first decade of the 21st century coming to a close, the Guardian newspaper's Money pages offered an analysis of what various types of investments have returned over the last ten years. Assets compared included classic cars, vintage wines, bank current accounts, gold bullion, works of art, and property.
They also listed the five best-performing unit trusts (funds) out of 771 analysed, as follows:
- BlackRock Gold and General 684%
- JPMorgan Natural Resources 579%
- Threadneedle Latin America 360%
- Scottish Widows Latin America 343%
- Jupiter Financial Opportunities 336%
By contrast the "average" UK fund was up just 13%, faring less well than your average building society 'easy access' account that would have returned around 20.9% across the decade.
Also mentioned were the top two performing investment trusts, which were:
- JP Morgan Russian Securities 976%
- BlackRock World Mining 498%
